Over the last twelve months, two of the city’s much-loved and prominent performance venues – Newcastle Theatre Royal and City Hall – have yet again seen tremendous audience numbers.

Both venues have continued to offer diverse and high quality programmes bringing to the city the very best in touring musicals, dance, comedy, music, drama and opera. Audiences have been delighted by some truly spectacular shows including the world premiere of Young Frankenstein – seen in Newcastle before its debut on London’s West End – the sensational Sheridan Smith in a sold-out run of Funny Girl and comedy geniuses Rob Brydon, Jimmy Carr, Greg Davies and Joel Dommett.

This year has seen the first stages of a substantial improvements programme at the City Hall get underway; there is a significant amount of work in pipeline however we are delighted with the impact that our refurbishment of the bar  and toilets areas has made, with positive feedback being received by customers and visiting artists.

We can once again call ourselves the Most Welcoming Theatre in the North East with audiences voting Newcastle Theatre Royal as the winners of this prestigious award for the third year in succession. We pride ourselves immensely on ensuring each and every person – from customers to visiting companies – enjoys a warm, friendly and professional service that all members of our hardworking and dedicated team continually strive to deliver and such recognition of our efforts is very much appreciated.

As well as offering my heartfelt thanks to all the staff, Philip Bernays and my colleagues on the Board of Trustees, I would like to extend my gratitude for the continued support from our Friends, sponsors and donors whose generous contributions have helped to ensure that Newcastle Theatre Royal and City Hall remain at the forefront for providing quality arts, culture and entertainment in the region.
